Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. My writing/drawings are not being saved to the device memory.
    1. Ensure that you are writing with the provided Rip digitizer pen.
    2. Ensure that you are pushing the Save/Wake button BEFORE you begin writing, which activates the digitizer from low-power mode.
    3. Ensure that you are pressing the Save/Wake button to physically save the file to memory after you complete your drawing and BEFORE you Erase the image.
    4. Ensure that the device is charged
    5. Ensure that the device’s memory is not full (which would cause the Save/Wake button to show flash Yellow or Red.
    6. Ensure that the device is not connected to your computer, which disables the ability to save.
    7. Ensure that the Lock switch is in the Unlock position. If Locked, the Status Light will be solid Red when writing.
  2. My Boogie Board Rip tablet is unresponsive. What should I do?
  3. Each Boogie Board Rip tablet is equipped with a small reset button on the back of the device. Please turn your tablet over, locate the reset button and, using a pin or other small object, push the button. Your Boogie Board Rip tablet should return to normal.

  4. What does 'Rip' mean?
  5. 'Rip' stands for Record Image. Preserve.

  6. How is the Boogie Board Rip tablet different from other Boogie Board eWriters?
  7. The Boogie Board Rip tablet combines the exceptional writing experience inherent of all Boogie Board eWriters with the ability to save notes or illustrations and then transfer them to a computer for editing, organizing, archiving and/or sharing.

  8. How does the Boogie Board Rip tablet save what I have written or drawn?
  9. The Boogie Board Rip tablet utilizes an innovative touch screen technology that captures your pen strokes digitally and converts them to vector lines.

  10. Do I need to be connected to a computer to use the Boogie Board Rip tablet?
  11. No, you do not. The Boogie Board Rip tablet goes where you go! You only need to connect to a computer while uploading images stored in your tablet's internal memory.

  12. In what format will the Boogie Board Rip tablet save my notes?
  13. Saved images are stored as high-resolution vector Portable Document Files (PDFs).

  14. Where are the files stored?
  15. Notes or drawings are stored in internal flash memory until you connect and transfer the saved PDF files to a computer.

  16. What size are the PDF files?
  17. Each PDF will vary in file size, but will likely average between 30 and 50 kilobytes each. The maximum file size for a PDF created by the Boogie Board Rip tablet is 192 kilobytes.

  18. Will my PDFs save as white text on a black background, like they appear on the tablet's writing surface?
  19. No, the PDFs are saved as traditional black images on a white background.

  20. How many images/pages can I save before I have to upload them?
  21. The number of images/pages your Boogie Board Rip tablet can store will vary depending on the size of each PDF. If each PDF is average in size, your Boogie Board Rip tablet will hold approximately 200 PDFs before it is necessary to upload your notes/images to a computer to make space for more.

  22. How do I transfer the files from my Boogie Board Rip tablet to a computer?
  23. Simply connect your tablet to a computer with the provided micro USB cable, like any standard USB mass storage device. Your files will be available for viewing, archiving, editing or sharing.

  24. Is my Boogie Board Rip tablet only compatible with a computer running Microsoft® Windows®?
  25. No, the Boogie Board Rip tablet is compatible with any operating system that recognizes a USB mass storage device, like Mac® and Windows operating systems.

  26. Is there a way to view my saved images directly on the tablet's writing surface?
  27. No, you must upload your saved files to a computer to view, edit, organize, archive and/or share them. Recall capability is currently under review.

  28. Can I transfer files from my computer to the Boogie Board Rip tablet?
  29. No, the Boogie Board Rip tablet is an output-only device and external files cannot be transferred to its internal memory. All Boogie Board tablets are dedicated eWriters and do not perform eReader functions, like a Barnes & Noble Nook™ or Amazon Kindle™.

  30. Can I use my Boogie Board Rip tablet as an input device when it is connected to a computer?
  31. No. The addition of this feature is under review.

  32. What software do I have to install to use my Boogie Board Rip tablet?
  33. No software installations are required to save and upload images. However, the Virtual Desktop Companion Tool is available for download free from improvelectronics.com. This tool expands the tablet's functionality by allowing users to view drawn/written images in real time on a computer, save images directly to their computer, e-mail saved files and easily share data with others!

  34. Can I view my saved files with the Virtual Desktop Companion tool?
  35. No, you cannot. Adobe® Reader is recommended to view your PDF files. The latest version can be downloaded free of charge at Adobe.com.

  36. Can I modify the images once they are on my computer?
  37. Yes. Images created with the Boogie Board Rip tablet are saved as vector PDFs and can be edited with most illustration programs like Adobe® Illustrator and CorelDRAW® as well as image editing programs like Adobe® Photoshop.

  38. What is the resolution of the images created by the Boogie Board Rip tablet?
  39. Your Boogie Board Rip tablet creates vector-based images that do not contain pixels and therefore are not measured by dots per inch (dpi) like traditional images are measured.

  40. Can I connect my Boogie Board Rip tablet to my computer with wireless technology, like Blu-tooth?
  41. No, the Boogie Rip tablet does not feature wireless or Blu-tooth connectivity. Saved files are transferred via a micro USB port/cable. Wireless connectivity options are under review.

  42. Must I use the included stylus?
  43. Yes. The stylus included with your purchase contains technology that is necessary for the Boogie Board Rip tablet to record your images.

  44. I lost my stylus. Can I purchase a replacement?
  45. Yes. Replacement parts are available for purchase at improvelectronics.com and from most retailers that carry Boogie Board products.

  46. What kind of batteries does my Boogie Board Rip tablet use? Are they replaceable?
  47. The Boogie Board Rip tablet has rechargeable batteries. They are not user replaceable. However, the batteries are under warranty and will be replaced by an Improv Electronics technician if the batteries fail within the warranty period.

  48. How long will the batteries last between charges?
  49. Fully charged batteries will last approximately one week with typical usage before recharging is required. After one hour of inactivity, the Boogie Board Rip tablet will enter 'sleep mode'. While in 'sleep mode', the Boogie Board Rip tablet's batteries will last up to 100 days before recharging is required.
